Good News (Finally)

COVID-19 continues to take its toll. However, there is some good news for dentists during a time when we could sure use it.  If you look closely at some of the factors that make it hard to make up for lost income and rebuild your financial future, there is a silver lining.

Job Insecurity

Many people are concerned about jobs, their companies, and the lack of long-term security. Just one example of such uncertainty is the restaurant industry. According to the NY Times, “Restaurant analysts and operators estimate that 75 percent of the independent restaurants that have been closed to protect Americans from the coronavirus won’t make it. The National Restaurant Association estimated the restaurant industry will shed five to seven million employees.”

One side effect of tenuous job security is that a significant number of patients are opting not to schedule dental visits during hours which would require them to take time off from work.

PPO Write-Offs Just Got Worse

Although blood-sucking PPOs are nothing new and the actual amount you write off may not have changed, their relative effect on your practice (and your income) is far worse… for example, when your revenue is down, your overhead has jumped to 80% and you’re required by insurance to write off 20% of your fee!
